Facial Injectibles
A steadily-increasing number of dentists are now offering cosmetic injectables as part of their service. Such injections are used to help eliminate creases and wrinkles in the skin, or aids in the minor enhancement of a particular area. Facial injectables includes the use of botulinum toxin or dermal filler, depending on the area and treatment required by the dentist. Botulinum Toxin relaxes the underlying muscles, allowing the skins to repair and become smoother over a period of three to six months. Although results may vary for different patients, treatments typically take hold from three to ten days as the skin of your face gradually springs back to life. Though more widespread in the United States and Europe, the use of facial injectables in dentistry is becoming more the norm here in Australia.
Injectibles to Manage Pain
In addition to cosmetic enhancements, certain injectables can be used to manage severe pain in a range of oral conditions such as clenching, grinding, and TMJ (temporomandibular joint) pain. The injectable relaxes the muscles in these areas by blocking the nerve endings connected to the muscle fibres.
This slows the muscles’ activity down, often for several months. When the nerve endings regenerate, they can be more relaxed, and this further reduces any clenching and grinding that may have occurred previously.
